If you want to #TRY triathlon and help raise funds to beat breast cancer - now you can!
Triathlon Pink UK - who are just launching a new programme of women-only triathlon’s during June this year - have teamed up with the UK’s leading Women’s Sports Network to help promote the five events running from June to August 2014. Triathlon Pink has brought its successful Australian model to the UK for the first time - and despite being in start-up mode has generated huge interest – empowering women to take part in women-only triathlons. Managing Director, Media and Communications at Sport 3 Events UK Lisa Pringle said, “It’s a perfect match up of two incredibly powerful women’s brands aiming to encourage and promote more women to get involved with physical exercise. We’re delighted to be working with Jo Cotgrove and her team to align Triathlon Pink with their #ShowUP programme,” she said.
“The statistics are alarming – 11m women in the UK say they would like to get more active and yet over 80% don’t get round to it. Triathlon Pink offers a safe and inclusive environment with achievable distances for women to set themselves a goal of completing a swim, bike and run event.
Daily exercise should be fun and social, making it an enjoyable experience and not a chore, which translates into women of all ages leading healthier lifestyles,” Ms Pringle said.
Women sometimes need a reason to #ShowUP
Jo Cotgrove from Women’s Sports Network (WSNet) has been keen to work with TriathlonPINK having seen their great work in Australia - empowering women by getting them involved, fit and helping them raise funds for women’s charities. Jo says they chose TriathlonPINK to be part of their innovative #ShowUP programme because of the enthusiasm, understanding and confidence displayed in helping them get some of the 11m women in the UK move ACTIVE. Said Cotgrove, “#ShowUP is our monthly programme to provide direct marketing and promotional support to a range of events - to watch, #TRY or #JoinIN.
It might be turning out to watch a rugby match in November or entering a half marathon in June . . . when you commit to #ShowUP - you know there will be other 'newbies' there - all keen to support WomenSport and SportsWomen.”
WSNet believes that if folk don't #ShowUP and #JoinIN - then the media won't cover events, organisers won't provide extra activities, advertisers won't advertise and TV channels will continue to shun women's sport. And worst of all . . . the athletes, players and participants won't feel appreciated, won't perform as well, miss out on becoming role models and will just give up. We believe working with Triathlon Pink and Breakthrough Breast Cancer will make a difference - whatever the sport.” Said Jo. The first event is on 1 June at Crystal Palace ending with Basildon on 3 August.
Other WSNet #ShowUP events include: Sports BEAT rock/women’s sport festival during May, Women’s Henley Regatta in June and Engadin Ski marathon next March in St Moritz.
