#HERMoJo - #StongWomen - Faking period pains to get out of P.E? - by Natalie Morris @Nmozz @MetroUK

What do you think of when you hear the words ‘team sports’? Here's all the reasons you need to start playing a team sport in 2019 - by Natalie Morris - follow her @NMozz

Do you think of sweaty changing rooms? Faking period pains to get out of P.E? Bitchy teenage girls who would always pick you last?

If so, it’s definitely time to change your perception. Playing sport as part of a team can be hugely empowering, great for your physical and mental health and, chiefly, really fun. There is still a huge gender stigma associated with female sport.

Too many women still think of sport as unfeminine and intimidatingly male. The thinking around this needs to change. 2019 should be the year when you seriously consider taking up a team sport. And these are all the reasons why.

It’s a well known truism that employers look favorably on applicants who play sport. And there is sound reasoning behind it. Team sport builds resilience and determination, the ability to communicate, to work through difficult problems, to lead.

There are so many skills that you could transfer from the football pitch or the basketball court, directly to the boardroom. A big one is aggression and decisiveness. So many women suffer from a lack of aggression at work – you need a healthy helping of bad-assery to progress professionally, to shout down the men who interrupt you, to say no when you’re being overworked and under-valued.

Sport gives you confidence. It teaches you to chase the things you deserve, to fight back when someone is putting pressure on you. A sporting mentality can help you become that tenacious, fearless person in the office. . . . .
